Slack key guitar was
born in the 1830s when Hawaiian cowboys introduced innovative sounds
by changing traditional guitar tunings. Later in the 1920's and
30's, the strains of the swing era swept across the Pacific and
reached the shores of Waikiki. On this recording, Jeff
Peterson, an artist featured on the fist ever Grammy-Award Winning
recording for Best Hawaiian Music Album, reinterprets many of the
finest jazz standards with slack key stylings, adds the
sophistication of swing to Hawaiian classics, and offers imaginative
original compositions. The result is an inspired and diverse
expression of the spirit of aloha unique to the islands and people
of Hawaii.
