Pahe'e Slack Key |
Jeff Peterson |
Pure Slack Key flows like the rolling tides that touch the shores of the Hawaiian Islands. From the roots of a tradition that spans nearly two centuries to the voice of a new generation, Jeff Peterson's music
tells the stories that make Hawaii a true paradise. Relaxing,
nahenahe sound lift the spirit and invigorate the soul.
Slack Key guitar was born in the 1830s on the island of Hawaii when King Kamehameha III brought in Mexican and Spanish cowboys
to teach the Hawaiians the art of ranching. These visiting cowboys enjoyed playing the guitar and introduced the instrument to the people they met. Soon the guitar became very popular in the islands and a new style of playing developed as the Hawaiians added their spirit of Aloha to the instrument and experimented with different tunings. Over time, many tunings have been create and are now enjoyed throughout Hawaii and on distant shores around the world.
Jeff Peterson was born and raised on the Haleakala Ranch on the island
of Maui. His passion for guitar has led him to be featured on the
first recording to win the Grammy Award for Hawaiian music in 2005. He
has traveled throughout Hawaii and far from home to Asia, Europe,
Australia, and the US Mainland to share his love of slack key and other
musical styles. He has been featured with Eric Clapton, the Honolulu
Symphony, The Matt Catingub Orchestra of Hawaii, and has had the honor
to perform and record with many great artists in the fields of
Hawaiian, Jazz, and Classical music. He has shared his music with
diverse audiences including President Bill Clinton and the rock band
U2. He currently lives on the island of Oahu in beautiful Manoa
Valley. Pure Slack Key is offered with his deepest aloha.
